Lessons Learned as an Entrepreneur

The road of an entrepreneur is filled with both tough and instructive lessons. Entrepreneurs come from many walks of life, and they work in every industry, product category, generation, and culture. But what all of these entrepreneurs have in common is the steep learning curve to success. So, what can we learn from some of today’s most successful entrepreneurs?

As you start on this journey, here are five lessons and pieces of advice from the people who have gone down this path before us and found success as an entrepreneur. If paid attention to, these lessons can take your business to the next level.

1. Time is Money

Time is the one commodity you’ll always have a finite amount of. Your time is the greatest resource as an entrepreneur and one thing you can’t get back. To execute at the top level, you have to understand the full gravity of time. It’s imperative to prioritize your life and business in a way that lines up with what you value most.

2. Not all money is good money

This is a difficult lesson for many entrepreneurs to learn early in their careers. It’s easy to fall into the trap of accepting money from anyone who offers it when you’re just starting out. The problem is, not all customers or clients are worth it.

Avoid clients who use too much of your time, have excessive expectations, or whom you simply despise dealing with. It simply isn’t worth it!

3. Entrepreneurs need to follow their passion

“Choose a career you love and you will never have to work a day in your life,” the Chinese philosopher Confucius famously stated. One thing you’ll hear again is that your entrepreneurial success is determined on your enthusiasm. It won’t feel like work if you appreciate what you’re doing, and you’ll want to devote all of your time and resources to it.

4. Stay Curious and Keep Learning

Smart entrepreneurs understand the importance of continuing their education, regardless of their business. It’s critical to arrange a time for reading and learning, whether it’s in business techniques or just general information.

You create possibilities for yourself by keeping your mind open to new ideas and embracing novelty. Your horizons are broadened by being exposed to a variety of businesses and products.

5. Build a Great Team

When it’s time to start assembling a team, only the top candidates should be considered. It will take some time, but it will be well worth it. Hire people that are smarter than you and have complementary skills. People are one of the most important investments in your organization, and selecting the proper ones can help you achieve success.

We had an episode of the For Her Empire Podcast with Courtney Rudolph about the lessons learned by an entrepreneur. Courtney is the creator and founder of Creative Change Connect.
